The film was initially titled
Thiruppangal but was later renamed as Pudhiya Tiruppangal.
Reports claimed that singer-turned-actress Andrea Jeremiah
would play a prostitute, but Sharada clarified that she
portrays a journalist in the film.
Bollywood actress-cum-model Surveen Chawla makes her Tamil
film debut in an important role, while newcomer Darani plays
the 13-year-old child who is trafficked.
Madhu Ambat, who had won a National Film Award for his work
in Sharada's debut film Sringaram was signed as the
cinematographer again, while Vidyasagar agreed to compose
the film's music. The director will be introducing
Rajalakshmi as editor in this film.
